Debaters,

We have great news for you!

From the creators of the biggest and best speech and debate camp in America comes what we hope will be the biggest and best virtual debate championship of Spring 2020! In an effort to provide competitors additional opportunities to compete despite the cancellation of the season, the National Institute for Homeschool Debate and Oak Brook College of Law have teamed up with additional support from Union University to offer the National Virtual Debate Championship. We are offering over $1,300 in cash prizes for all three forms of debate, including Team Policy, Lincoln Douglas, and Parliamentary Debate, plus additional gift card and scholarship prizes, all for a lower cost than other online alternatives!

The NVDC will use the Team Policy and Lincoln Douglas resolutions from the Stoa 2019-20 competitive season (though it is not officially sanctioned by or affiliated with the Stoa organization). Our unique schedule will allow competitors to compete in any, or all of the forms of debate that our entire community has come to love. In addition, we provide limited opportunities for parents to opt out of judging by hiring alumni to judge a round instead.

Here are some starting details.

Qualifications AND COST

Students need only meet the 11 to 18 age requirement to compete in any form of debate, and need not have debated in the previous year.

The cost is only $35 per participant, per event. Students can compete in all 3 forms of debate.

Schedule

NVDC is a 5 day championship that will be held on Tuesday, April 28 - Saturday, May 2, with rounds scheduled between 8AM - 8 PM PST each day. The first 3 days will consist of preliminary rounds for Team Policy, Lincoln Douglas, and Parli, and the last 2 days will be elimination rounds.

Prizes

Over $1,300 in cash prizes are being awarded for the top TP, LD, and Parli teams, as well as additional gift card and scholarship prizes!

Alumni Judges

Are you an alumni with debate experience, or do you know one? We’re offering alumni debaters an opportunity to be hired to judge from the comfort of their own home, as long as they meet NVDC’s minimum requirements. Find more details below!

Time is of the essence and space is limited, so register for the NVDC Online Championship now and save your spot! Registration closes Wednesday, April 22.
